Frequently Asked questions
Is telehealth safe and private?
Yes. We use fully HIPAA-compliant systems to protect your privacy. All medical records, communications, and video visits remain confidential. To ensure patient safety and identity verification, a valid driver’s license must be kept on file.

How do I pay for visits?
We are a cash-pay telehealth practice and do not bill insurance. Patients typically enroll in a monthly hormone therapy subscription that includes ongoing clinical oversight and, when appropriate, prescribed medications shipped directly to your home.
For patients receiving weight management care, services and medications are billed on a pay-as-you-go basis depending on your individualized treatment plan.
If additional medications are recommended, they may be added to your plan when clinically appropriate. Any new prescription requires a medical consultation to review your health history, discuss potential risks and benefits, and determine whether the medication is appropriate for you.
How do I cancel my testosterone subscription?
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your patient portal. If you need assistance, our team is available to help and will respond promptly.
There are no long-term contracts or cancellation fees. To help avoid interruptions in care, we recommend submitting cancellation requests at least 3–4 weeks before your next scheduled refill or renewal date, since medications are dispensed in advance as part of your treatment plan.
How can I contact the clinic?
As a small, locally operated practice, we focus on providing personalized, responsive care.
The best way to reach our team is through the secure patient portal or by email at info@xlr8hormonehealth.com. We typically respond within one business day during normal business hours.

Weight Management FAQs
Insurance & GLP-1 Coverage
Does insurance cover GLP-1 medications?
GLP-1 medications are sent through a well researched compounded pharmacy to ensure patient safety. If you wish to go through insurance, we can help assist you in finding a provider who would be able to assist you.
Why don’t you take insurance?
XLR8 is a small practice with limited staff, and we prioritize dedicating our time to patient care, education, and ensuring each visit is comfortable and unhurried. Working with insurance companies often requires extensive prior authorizations and administrative processes that can reduce the time our providers spend directly with patients.
By remaining out-of-network, we are able to focus on providing personalized, one-on-one care without these interruptions. If needed, we’re happy to help you find a local practice that accepts insurance. However, XLR8 does not bill insurance directly or provide insurance coverage.
Labs & Monitoring for Weight Loss
Are labs required for weight management?
Labs are not always required. However, depending on your medical history and treatment response, labs may be recommended on a case-by-case basis. We accept recent labs from outside clinics if completed within an appropriate timeframe.
Medication Dosing & Injections
Why are mg and units different?
Milligrams (mg) measure medication strength. Units on an insulin syringe measure liquid volume. These measurements are not interchangeable.
Because weight-management medications come in different concentrations, the mg listed on the box will not match the unit markings on your syringe. Never attempt to convert doses yourself. Always follow your provider’s instructions exactly.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss one dose:
Take it as soon as you remember if your next dose is more than 48 hours away. If your next dose is less than 48 hours away, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule.
If you miss two or more doses:
You may need to restart at a lower dose to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. Contact your provider before restarting.
How do I give myself an injection?
Please refer to the Resources tab in your patient portal for step-by-step instructions on administering subcutaneous injections safely.

Are labs necessary for hormone therapy?
Yes. Current lab work is required to safely evaluate hormone levels and develop a personalized treatment plan.
We can order labs through LabCorp or Quest, or you may submit outside lab results if completed within an acceptable timeframe.
After completing labs, schedule a follow-up appointment at least four business days later to review results. Treatment recommendations cannot be made until labs are reviewed.
How do I schedule my lab follow-up?
Schedule through the website or patient portal. Please wait at least four business days after labs are drawn to allow results to finalize.

Are there alternatives to hormone replacement therapy (HRT)?
Yes. After a comprehensive review of your lab work and medical history, we will discuss all available options with you in detail. Hormone replacement therapy is not required, and choosing not to pursue treatment is always an option.
Based on your evaluation, we will outline a range of approaches, including different methods of HRT administration, no treatment, or supportive options sometimes referred to as “boosters,” which are intended to help support the body’s natural hormone production.
How long does it take to see results?
Results vary depending on your hormone levels and treatment plan. Some patients notice improvements within weeks, while others may take longer. Consistency, lifestyle optimization, and routine follow-ups are essential for best results.
Is weight gain normal during treatment?
Temporary weight gain can occur early in treatment due to fluid retention as your body adjusts. This typically resolves over time. If concerns arise, your provider can assess whether adjustments are needed.
Are hormone treatments safe?
It’s normal to have concerns about hormone replacement therapy (HRT). When prescribed appropriately and carefully monitored with routine lab work and follow-ups, risks are significantly minimized.
We prioritize open communication, individualized treatment plans, and ongoing monitoring to maximize benefits while reducing potential risks.
Are labs required for Sermorelin?
Lab monitoring helps healthcare providers evaluate the safety and effectiveness of Sermorelin therapy and guide treatment decisions. Depending on your medical history and treatment goals, your provider may recommend:
-
IGF-1: Helps assess growth hormone activity and monitor response to therapy
-
Hemoglobin A1C: Evaluates long-term blood sugar control
-
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP): Assesses liver function, kidney function, and electrolyte levels
Lab testing recommendations may vary based on individual needs. These evaluations help providers monitor treatment response, identify potential side effects, and make adjustments when appropriate.
Are peptides safe?
Peptides are short chains of amino acids that play important roles in the body and are being studied for a variety of medical applications. The safety of any peptide depends on the specific compound, its intended use, the dosage, and an individual’s medical history. Some peptides are approved by regulatory authorities for specific conditions, while others are investigational and may have limited safety and effectiveness data.
At our clinic, patients receive a thorough medical evaluation to determine whether a treatment may be appropriate. If peptide therapy is considered, treatment decisions are made in consultation with a licensed healthcare provider, with ongoing monitoring based on the patient's individual needs.
Important: Peptide therapies can have risks and side effects. Patients should discuss the potential benefits, risks, and alternatives with their healthcare provider before starting treatment.
